The 2016 UCI world championship elite Men’s road race was every bit as unpredictable as the several races that proceeded it in the week of races throughout the world championships. A breakaway formed in the midst of the race, but it was the incredible pressure of the Belgian squad and a few others that split the front of the race into an elite group. Eventually those 20 riders would come into the finish, and it was the 2015 world champion Peter Sagan that achieved an incredible repeat win in the uphill drag to the finish line.
