June 19, 2016 – For the letter N in our A-to-Z countdown to the 2016 Tour de France (#TDF2016) we’ve chosen NICE, a city on the French Riviera that has hosted Tour stages 36 times.

This image was taken from the 2009 Tour, when the peloton passed through Nice on the opening road stage from Monaco to Brignoles.

Swiss star Fabian Cancellara had won the stage 1 time trial in Monaco, so his Saxo Bank teammates, with Spartacus sitting fourth wheel in his yellow jersey, were controlling the race as they passed palm trees in this early part of the stage.
