It’s that time of year again…. The world’s biggest bike race, the Tour de France, starts on July 2. To get your taste buds whetted, #pelotonshorts opens a countdown to the Tour (#TDF2016) with an unconventional A-to-Z series of images and words.

For the letter A, we’ve chosen the Tour’s most popular climb—even though it’s not on this year’s route—L’ALPE D’HUEZ. In this image from stage 14 of the 1992 edition, the Motorola team’s Andy Hampsten is on his way to becoming the first American to score a stage victory at the famous alpine resort.
