German rider Andre Greipel has been ruled out of the remainder of the spring classics series with a collarbone injury, his Lotto team confirmed on Monday. Greipel, 31, picked up the injury after falling eight kilometers from the finish line as he was challenging for Sunday’s Gent-Wevelgem classic in Belgium.

“It’s a tough blow for Andre and for the team,” said Lotto manager Marc Sergeant. “He was our ticket for several races. In the Tour of Flanders and the Paris-Roubaix he could have done great support work for the team.”

The Gent-Wevelgem was the second in the eight-race spring classics series.
