OSLOH JEANS LANE BICYCLE JEANS
The trick with good cycling jeans is spanning two vastly different uses with vastly different requirements. How can you be comfortable both in the saddle and at your desk, not to mention walking in the park or standing at the bar? And, hey, let’s look good doing it! A few brands are game to give it a go, but none has straddled the divide better, or with more style, than Osloh Jeans. We’ve been riding, walking, standing and sitting in the men’s Lane Jean in twill. The cut is wonderful in any setting. The contoured waistband with adjustable straps never cuts into your belly or creeps down your rear while leaning into your bars. There are plenty of pockets, reinforced zones to protect against the demands of urban riding, and even a bacteria- and water-resistant coating to the 98-percent cotton, 2-percent spandex fabric. The pièce de résistance? The quilted-poly crotch; it’s like a built-in chamois. After 100 miles in Lycra on Sunday, the Monday morning commute just got a lot more comfortable in Osloh jeans. Despite all these features, Osloh Jeans manage to cut a classic profile perfect for work and play. $150; osloh.com
STRIIPE DESIGN 908/3 SOCKS
We know that motorists and cyclists can have an adversarial relationship, but that doesn’t stop us from loving beautiful cars and being inspired by iconic automotive design. Striipe is a new brand that makes “performance driving socks;” and if you don’t believe auto racing is an endurance sport, go for a bike ride with Jenson Button or Mark Webber. The resulting socks are as at home in cycling shoes as they are behind the wheel of a vintage air-cooled Porsche or McLaren P1. We’ve fallen in love with the 908/3, based on the baby-blue-and-rich-orange of the Gulf Oil company. While the socks are named for the Gulf Racing Porsche that won Italy’s Targa Floria race in 1970, we’d argue the late ’60s Ford GT40s wore the colors best. Striipe socks are made in the U.S. and with a 7-inch cuff, moisture-wicking fibers, breathable performance mesh and an anatomic form, they make brilliant cycling socks. If Gulf colors aren’t for you, Striipe has socks inspired by Martini Racing, SharkWerks, the GTI Mk1, the checkerboard pattern of the original Porsche 928 interior and many other designs. Striipe socks aren’t just perfect for bike nerds and car nerds, they are perfect for anyone with a passion for great design. $20; striipedesign.com
