SCOTT Builds on Strong 2014 Line

July 31, 2014 – Last year SCOTT delivered a very comprehensive line. For the first time they had standouts in every road category – the aero Foil, the all around road racing Addict, and the endurance Solace – and they all hit their intended performance targets on the nose while being lighter, stiffer and livelier than most of the competition. It’s no surprise Orica-GREENEdge and IAM Cycling have been so successful.

While the majority of its line remains status quo, SCOTT delivered two big changes for 2015. The Solace gets a disc version and the Plasma has been completely redesigned. The latest issue of peloton magazine has all the details of the new disc Solace, a welcome addition for a bike that already sets the standard for lightweight and a lively feel in the endurance category.

The new Plasma 5 made big news in the tri world even before its official launch when Sebastian Kienle won on a camouflaged version of the bike. Unlike Felt or Specialized that have now created separate TT and Tri bikes due to UCI rules, SCOTT has stuck with a one bike platform that uses some interesting tricks to span the two rule books. The giant airfoil at the head tube is clearly not 3-1 UCI compliant, but the leading edge is actually a water bottle and can easily be removed resulting in a UCI compliant airfoil.

The British aerodynamicist behind many F1 teams as well as ENVE’s new wheels, Simon Smart, played a pivotal roll in the bike’s design. Profile Design also worked hand in hand with SCOTT to create integrated bars that didn’t limit fit, hurt the bike’s aero qualities or provide headaches for the mechanics. Beyond the usual integrated bakes and multiple airfoil shapes the Plasma 5 has been refined to work more aerodynamically as a rider-bike system, than just a slippery frame alone. True to SCOTT DNA both weight and stiffness were also important elements of the design brief.
