Jan 24, 2015 – Identical in style to the farewell bike presented to Cadel Evans on Tuesday at the Santos Tour Down Under, this BMC teammachine SLR01 adopts the signature blue color scheme of his own race, the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race. The event takes place over two days Jan. 31-Feb. 1 in Victoria, Australia.
BMC
The new bike marks Cadel Evans’ official transition to the role of BMC Switzerland Ambassador. “I’ve had my time in professional sport; I gave absolutely everything I could to the sport on the competitive side. I’ve gotten everything out of myself and that’s the way I wanted to finish my career; without any regrets. I’ve wrung my competitive spirit pretty dry! Now I’m looking forward to continuing to work with BMC Switzerland – it’s all coming together really nicely.” “We know that the Great Ocean Race is something that Cadel has worked hard on” says BMC Racing Team sponsor Andy Rihs “So we thought that a gift in the form of a bike, in the colors of his race, would lift his spirits as he transitions from professional cyclist to the next phase of his life.”
Looking to the Future – Cadel Evans, BMC Switzerland Ambassador
BMC Switzerland Chief Executive Officer David Zurcher believes Evans’ new role is a perfect fit, “We will benefit greatly from his knowledge of the sport and his insights into performance cycling. Cadel will be present at corporate events, mass participation events, as a spokesperson for BMC, and work very closely with our team of engineers on new projects related to performance cycling. We are very much looking forward to having this invaluable contribution to our company from such a respected cyclist.”
In relation to his new role, Evans commented “Making the transition into being a non-professional cyclist will be difficult. I want to keep myself busy and have another reason to stay fit and ride bikes, while providing a good structure for my family. I was delighted when this opportunity arose to become an Ambassador for BMC Switzerland. Until now, performance has always been my no.1 focus. Now I’m going to have all of this free time to test and evaluate bikes, plus, it’s a great reason to stay fit. I love riding, I love bikes, the equipment topic is really close to me plus, I have a fantastic feel for bikes – I know the teammachine better than my own body!”
